BUTCH CUT is an experimental art project for queer, trans*, and non-binary people that has been using haircuts as an artistic medium since 2015. The project explored the potential of this process to foster a community of solidarity and documented it in practice over the course of a decade. The initial focus was on the question: To what extent do service providers' implicit thoughts influence the well-being of queer people? Building on this, the project investigated whether implicitly positive thoughts during interactions in a service setting create space for the emergence of a community.

BUTCH CUT ist ein experimentelles Kunstprojekt für queere, trans* und nicht-binäre Menschen, das seit 2015 Haarschnitte als künstlerisches Medium nutzt. Dabei wurde das Potenzial dieses Prozesses zur Entstehung einer solidarischen Gemeinschaft erforscht und über ein Jahrzehnt hinweg in der Praxis dokumentiert. Im Fokus stand zunächst die Frage: Inwiefern beeinflussen die impliziten Gedanken von Dienstleister*Innen das Wohlbefinden queerer Menschen? Daraus abgeleitet wurde untersucht, ob sich auf Basis implizit positiver Gedanken während der Interaktion in einer Dienstleistungssituation Raum für die Entstehung einer Community ergeben kann.
